Rahul Dravid, head coach of the India National Cricket Team, has discussed India’s strategy towards reaching the ICC World Test Championship final in 2021–2023, noting that they are concentrating on one match at a time.

On the WTC points chart, which is currently headed by the Australia National Cricket Team, the India National Cricket Team is now in fourth place. India still has six games left in the current ICC World Test Championship cycle, and they will need to win the majority of them in order to go to the final for a second straight year.

India’s percentage will increase to 68.06 if they win all six of their remaining games, which is sufficient for a top-two finish. If they win five games and lose one, their percentage will be 62.5, which is also sufficient for qualification.

Rahul Dravid, the head coach of India, said in a video posted to BCCI.tv that they will take things one stride at a time and not look too far ahead.

“It is one step at a time. I don’t think we can start looking at the sixth one before we start here. We have got to win this one first. We have to play our best cricket to give ourselves a chance and then go to Dhaka and replicate. Just take it as we go,” said Dravid in an interview on BCCI.tv.

Rahul Dravid said that it will be difficult for the team to win the bulk of games in order to get to the WTC final. He continued by saying that they must first concentrate on the current two-match Test series against Bangladesh before making preparations for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy match against Australia in 2023.

“We know we have a challenge in our hands, we have to win a majority of the games we have left in the championship. But we are not going to get there if we don’t take the first steps well. We have to focus on this one and then see how the cards fall and then we will see what we have to do in the series against Australia,” said Dravid.

In the first innings of the first Test between India and Bangladesh, India scored 404 runs thanks to strong half-centuries from Cheteshwar Pujara, Shreyas Iyer, and Ravichandran Ashwin. Additionally, Kuldeep Yadav and Rishabh Pant had 40-plus contributions.
