India struggled at 74/7 after Axar Patel’s wicket, and Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin added an unbroken 71-run stand. A crucial 34 off 69 balls was produced by the southpaw, who was moved up to number five in the batting order, to keep India in the match.

Iyer and Ashwin formed a cautious partnership after his dismissal, but eventually scored the 71 runs required to give India a thrilling victory. Iyer had a crucial 159-run partnership with Rishabh Pant during the first innings, scoring 87 runs overall (93). In all, he scored 202 runs over the course of three innings, solidifying his place in the current Test lineup.

Iyer has been outstanding throughout the series, according to Dinesh Karthik, who also noted that he has demonstrated his talent.

“Shreyas has been magnificent throughout the series. One of the toughest challenges in a Test match is in the fourth innings, when you are chasing down a score against all odds. Shreyas Iyer has again shown how good he is,” said Karthik.

He said that when the right-hander fails to score runs in a few games, this inning shouldn’t be overlooked.

“We should never forget these kinds of facts when we discuss about him in the near future. When he gets out a couple of times, we say he should not be a part of the Test team because others outside look really good,” Karthik added.

Iyer’s maturity was further lauded by Karthik, who also noted that he appeared cool and peaceful. Iyer consistently performs well under pressure, according to Karthik.

“It was a calm and composed knock, giving no chances. He was making sure he was consistently taking those singles. The moment the field was up, he knew there was an opportunity and he pounced on it. The guy under pressure constantly delivers,” said Karthik.

Dinesh Karthik most recently represented India at the T20 World Cup in Australia. After being kept by the team, he will play for RCB in the IPL in 2023.
