IND vs SL Live: Big Change In Indian Cricket! Hardik Pandya To Lose T20 Captaincy Just After Sri Lanka Series? At the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on January 3, Team India’s skipper Hardik Pandya led his team to a dramatic victory as they defeated Sri Lanka by two runs in the opening T20I of the three-match series. Former India opener Gautam Gambhir thinks Hardik Pandya is the best candidate to succeed Rohit Sharma as India’s permanent white-ball captain.
Senior players Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul were not selected for the T20 squad but will be back for the three-match ODI series. In the condensed format, Hardik Pandya was named captain, and Suryakumar Yadav served as his assistant. On whether the players had been benched or rested for the series, the BCCI had not released an official announcement.
He Is The Only One Who Actually Fits In That Playing XI – Gautam Gambhir
Rohit shouldn’t be evaluated on the basis of his success as a skipper in just one ICC event, according to Gautam Gambhir, who made this statement prior to the first T20I against Sri Lanka. According to Gambhir, there is nothing wrong if the management of the Indian team decides to explore outside the seasoned trio in the T20s.

“We have to wait and watch. If actually selectors have moved on from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, then probably yes. When Rohit comes back, it’s gonna be difficult for someone like Hardik Pandya to replace him as captain because judging him by just one ICC tournament, it’s not the right parameter,” Gambhir told Star Sports.
“If selectors have already communicated to Virat, KL Rahul and Rohit, and all those guys. If there’s clear communication, they have moved on from them. Then probably Hardik is the only guy at the moment because he is the only one who actually fits in that playing XI. And then you got Suryakumar as his deputy. So I think, that’s going to be the way forward,” he added.
