IND vs BAN ODI Live: KL Rahul keeps wickets: Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, and Rishabh Pant may very possibly watch the ICC World Cup 2023 from their homes. KL Rahul, the vice-captain, has stated that he will continue to retain wickets and bat at No. 4 in ODIs.

All three keepers may as well give up on their chances of competing in the ODI World Cup in India as the spotlight is shifting to more and more all-rounders. Rahul wore heavy gloves in the opening ODI even though Ishan was sitting on the bench.

KL Rahul Opens Up On His Wicketkeeping Chances

“Over the last six to seven months, we haven’t played many ODIs. However, if you look at 2020–21, I kept wickets and batted at position four. The team has given me this responsibility. I’m not really sure why Pant was let go.” At the post-game press conference, KL Rahul stated that the medical team would be able to explain why Pant was discharged.

His continued performance in that capacity will prevent India’s three deserving keepers from being selected for the starting XI. The administration of the team is eager to include Suryakumar Yadav. Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, and Rishabh Pant will only compete for the position of backup wicketkeeper if he bats at No. 5. However, they won’t be able to play unless KL Rahul is hurt.

Why can Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, and Sanju Samson bid farewell to the 2023 World Cup?

  • KL Rahul is the preferred option for the wicketkeeper in ODIs if he remains healthy.
  • Shikhar Dhawan will continue to be a member of India’s starting XI with the support of the team management. With Rohit, he will begin.
  • As a result, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan will only be vying for backup keepers.
  • Therefore, if KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan take a break or get hurt, only one of them will survive.
  • But it means Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson are doomed.
  • In all formats, team management has given Rishabh Pant a strong advantage.
  • Pant would therefore be given preference over Sanju and Ishan only if Dhawan completely loses his form or develops a niggle.
  • It will be nearly tough for other keepers to make India’s starting XI because the emphasis is on all-rounders starting at position No. 6.

In the meantime, KL Rahul took Pant’s position in the first ODI against Bangladesh in accordance with that choice. Rohit Sharma gave Shikhar Dhawan the lead. However, Shreyas Iyer beat KL Rahul for the position at No. 4. But after struggling in T20s, the Indian vice-captain was in perilous shape. He scored 73 runs while fighting. India would have been facing a disgraceful result without him.

“I was simply timing the ball better than everyone else on that particular day. Today, every move I made and the option I chose was successful. Even during the most recent net sessions in Bangladesh, I was practicing shots. I made an effort to push myself with this pitch, and I’m pleased with my inning. Today was fun to bat. But we had hoped for an additional 30 to 40 runs. With me, Siraj was hitting well. I could have stayed on longer, in the end, to raise our score to 230-240,” KL Rahul remarked.
