In spite of having a dislocated thumb, Rohit Sharma walked out to save his team on Wednesday in Dhaka, earning acclaim from the cricketing community for his bravery. Rohit made the decision to go out and attempt to save his team’s face as India was struggling to chase a challenging 272-run total and was down to 207 for 7.
The Indian captain was transported to a hospital after suffering an injury earlier in the day while catching a ball at slips. He vanished in the middle of the match, and vice-captain KL Rahul took over.
However, the response from the fans was tremendous hours later as he approached the plate while wearing a badly wrapped left hand. Despite the captain’s undefeated 51 off just 28 balls, which included 3 boundaries and 5 sixes, India was unable to claim victory.
Phenomenal For Rohit Sharma To Show That Level Of Courage: Rahul Dravid
Rahul Dravid, the head coach, thereafter showered Rohit with plaudits for his fearlessness. Dravid gave an insight into Rohit’s thoughts before to his choice to come out to bat at position nine at the post-game news conference on Wednesday.
“It was phenomenal for him to show that level of courage. He had a serious dislocation and had to go to the hospital to set that right. Stitches in his hand, and a couple of injections to be able to just go out and bat. But credit to him, he was really determined to go out and have a go and take a chance and it was amazing how close he brought us with that innings,” Dravid said at the presser.
“It was an absolutely phenomenal innings by the skipper. Great courage to be able to go out there and take a chance but unfortunately, we couldn’t get over the line,” he added.
Sadly, India won’t have a captain for the third and final ODI on Saturday in Chattogram. Dravid stated that Deepak Chahar, Kuldeep Sen, and Rohit will all be unable to play in the forthcoming game due to their respective injuries.
A choice will be taken on Rohit’s participation in the two-match Test series, which starts next week in Chattogram, after discussing the seriousness of his ailment with medical authorities.
