In the KKR vs RCB match 36 of IPL 2024 at the Eden Gardens Stadium, Virat Kohli was found in the middle of a massive controversy. He was adjudged out by the on-field umpires and then the 3rd umpire on a full-toss ball.
Following his dismissal, Kohli expressed his strong conviction that the high full-toss delivery delivered by Harshit Rana was not a no-ball, as indicated by his impassioned conversation with the on-field umpire. Nevertheless, Kohli’s ire did not cease there. The former captain of the RCB was captured in a new video that went viral on social media following the match, capturing yet another moment of rage.

Rana caught and bowled Virat Kohli in the third over of RCB’s pursuit, but the batsman contended that the waist-high full-toss delivery should have been classified as a no-ball. Although Kohli made contact with the delivery at a height of waist-high, he was facing the ball from well outside the crease.
TV umpire Michael Gough evaluated the delivery using the new Hawk-Eye ball-tracking technology and determined that Virat Kohli would have been removed from the ground at a distance of 0.92 meters had he been positioned within the crease.
Based on Kohli’s waist height of 1.04 meters, had he positioned himself within the crease, the ball would have passed below his waist, thereby qualifying as a lawful delivery. However, Virat Kohli remained unconvinced. A mouthful later, he returned to the pavilion following an animated discussion with the umpire.

In an attempt to eliminate the debates surrounding waist-high no balls, the Indian Premier League (IPL) implemented new technology in the 2024 season that measures the ball’s height as it passes the batter at the crease.
The pre-recorded measurements made of a batter’s toe-to-waist height are then compared to this data. It’s a no-ball if the delivery height is higher than the batter’s waist inside the crease; if not, it’s a legal delivery.
