Mohammad Rizwan To Replace Babar Azam As Pakistan’s White-Ball Captain.  Asif Iqbal, a former Pakistani cricketer, has suggested that Mohammad Rizwan may captain the squad during white-ball matches. Iqbal thinks that by doing this, Babar Azam will be liberated and able to score a lot more runs in the format.

The seven-match T20I series against England in September, followed by the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, marked Pakistan’s disappointing home season in white-ball cricket.

Babar has participated in the runs. The 28-year-old has come under fire, though, for his losing streak at home.

Iqbal advised Pakistan to relieve Babar of all captaincy duties so they could completely exploit him as a batter:

“Leading in limited-overs games can be extremely draining, and Babar is Pakistan’s best batter and therefore needs to be properly handled. If limited-overs captaincy is given to Rizwan, Babar can bat with added freedom for the team without any extra responsibility.”

The Lahore-born batsman amassed 679 runs in nine games at an average of 84.87 with three hundreds and five fifties to lead Pakistan in ODI runs in 2022. In the three ODIs he played at home against New Zealand, he also hit two hundreds.

The 79-year-old, who watched New Zealand win the ODI series in Pakistan, said the hosts didn’t adjust to the conditions but thought Pakistan’s recent limited-overs cricket performance hasn’t been as bad:

“New Zealand played better cricket than Pakistan; the visitors adapted to the playing conditions, which were alien to them, more effectively than the host team. Teams winning away series against good opponents means they are better than the home side,” he added.

“Overall, Pakistan have played well in recent limited-overs cricket, including the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia where they reached the final but losing series on home turf is worrying,” Asif Iqbal further stated.

In April 2023, Pakistan will once more play host to the Kiwis for five ODIs and five T20Is.
