In January 2024, India and England will play a Test series. There will be five matches in the IND vs. ENG Test series. On January 25, the first Test between India and England will take place at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
India took on South Africa recently in a 2-match Test series. In the first Test match of the series at Centurion, India suffered a crushing loss to South Africa. India lost the game by an innings and 32 runs against Dean Elgar’s men. However, in the 2nd Test match, team India made a historic comeback as they finished the shortest match ever, winning it by 7 wickets in just under 2 days and leveling the series 1-1.
With the home advantage in the upcoming Test series, they will have an upper hand in beating England. The last time India and England met in the country, the hosts won the series as they were on the brink of qualifying for the ICC World Test Championship final in 2021.
After the first Test match in Hyderabad, the next 4 games will be played in Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, Ranchi, and Dharamsala. Ben Stokes will lead England in the Test series as the Bazball faces its biggest-ever challenge in the subcontinent. Rohit Sharma will lead Team India in the whites.

India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, will captain his side in their match against England. Sharma will open for the team against ENG in the IND series as well. Yashasvi Jaiswal will open alongside Rohit in the series. Shubman Gill will continue as the number 3 in all likeliness in the series, as he did against South Africa.
Jaiswal hit a century in his Test debut against the West Indies, putting on a fantastic display. Notably, having more than two choices for openers will enable the squad to be ready for any injury concerns because the IND vs ENG Test series consists of five matches.
Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer will take up the number 4 and number 5 spot in the middle-order for the IND vs ENG Test series. In 2023, Virat Kohli was India’s top run scorer in Tests. The newest member in the Test setup is Shreyas Iyer.
After 12 games, the right-handed batter has a respectable average of close to 40, with five half-centuries and a century. KL Rahul has shown his value to the squad in the Test format following his century in the opening Test match against South Africa.
His ability to keep wickets has made him an invaluable member of the team. Ishan Kishan may return for the England series. Kishan showed a decent form in the last Test series that he played against West Indies.
Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja will likely be slotted in the team for the IND vs ENG Test series for the all-rounder slots. With 33 wickets in 7 Test matches, Jadeja is India’s second-highest wicket-taker in Test Cricket in 2023.
Jadeja also hit two half-centuries at an average of 35.12 across nine innings. Axar Patel’s superiority with the bat and ball could earn him a spot. In 2023 in Test Cricket, Patel amassed three half-centuries in five innings and claimed three wickets in four Test matches.
Ravichandran Ashwin will be India’s spinner to look out for in the Test series vs England. He took 41 wickets in 7 Tests in 2023 and was the team’s top wicket-taker in Tests in 2023.
After taking 15 wickets in two Test matches against the West Indies in 2023, he was named Player of the Series. Ashwin last played a Test match in South Africa in the 1st Test. He has been Ben Stokes’ biggest challenge in Test Cricket over the years.
Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Mukesh Kumar are the four pacers who could make it to the India squad for the IND vs ENG Test series. Jasprit Bumrah will be the leader of the pack in the Test series vs England. He was the Man of the Series against South Africa in the recently concluded Test series alongside Dean Elgar. In the 2nd innings of the Cape Town Test, Jasprit Bumrah claimed 6 wickets on the same ground on which he made his Test debut.
Mohammed Siraj has taken 15 wickets in 7 Test matches in 2023, demonstrating respectable form. He once again displayed a scintillating performance recently in the 2nd Test between India and South Africa wherein Siraj scalped 6 wickets for 15 runs in the opening spell of the match and made the game one-sided in India’s favour. For his breath-taking spell, Mohammed Siraj won the Man of the Match award in the Cape Town Test vs South Africa
Mohammed Shami, who was not a part of the Indian squad for the South Africa series, has claimed 13 wickets in just four games in 2023. Mukesh Kumar has shown some decent prowess with the ball in the last couple of Test series that he has played against West Indies and South Africa and now he finds himself ahead of Prasidh Krishna in the race to be India’s 4th seamer in the Test series vs England.
