In the Ranji Trophy 2024, Assam rallied against Chhattisgarh thanks to a scorching century off of 56 balls from captain Riyan Parag. Parag went bonkers, romping his way to a tonne in the first innings after being removed for a single-digit score.

With seven boundaries and seven sixes, the Assam captain’s knock was impressive, with Parag hitting for a score of more than 150. Assam crumbled in the first innings after conceding 327 runs to Chhattisgarh. After follow-on was mandated, Parag took the lead and drove his team to victory in the second innings.

Parag was finally dismissed for 155 runs which he scored in just 86 balls. His knock had 12 fours and 11 sixes. Assam was 245/9 when Parag walked back to the dugout. With this knock, Riyan Parag has given a tight slap to the Indian selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar, who once again overlooked the youngster despite scintillating performances in the domestic circuit.

Riyan Parag constantly knocks on the door

The BCCI, on Sunday, announced the India T20 Squad for the Afghanistan series wherein, Riyan Parag was not picked. He has played for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL for quite some time now but has failed to make it to the Indian team consistently despite scoring a bundle of runs in the Indian domestic circuit. Parag has undoubtedly been the stalwart of Assam Cricket which has led him to captaining his Ranji Trophy side in 2024.

With the IND vs ENG Test series to fall later, Parag has once again reminded the selectors of his prowess to bat in the middle order even in Tests, and play the role of a finisher which the Indian team has been lacking for quite some time now, especially in red-ball cricket. However, Riyan Parag’s chances of making it to the Indian Test squad look bleak at the moment with the stalwarts of the team already being in contention for a spot.
