Ishan Kishan was mocked by Indian captain Rohit Sharma by asking why he wasn’t allowed to participate in the next three games after scoring a double-century against Bangladesh last month.

Ishan answered Rohit’s question with a startling answer that made them both chuckle, as well as Shubman Gill.

Shubman Gill, the most recent batsman to do so, became the double centurion in ODIs on Wednesday (January 18). The 23-year-old accomplished the feat against New Zealand in the first ODI of the three-match series in Hyderabad. Gill is the seventh batter overall and the fifth Indian to score a double century in 50 cricket overs.

The previous record-holder for the youngest hitter to score a double century in an ODI was Ishan Kishan, who accomplished it last month at the age of 24. He broke that one.

Thanks to Gill’s heroics, India overcame the Kiwis by 12 runs in the opening game of the series. “Ishan, 200 bana k teen match nahi khela yaar?” Rohit Sharma enquired, to which Ishan Kishan replied, “Bhaiya captain to AAP hai,” to which all three batsmen laughed out loud.

Ishan made history last month by scoring his maiden ODI double-century while batting first, but he was forced to bat second after Rohit Sharma was reinstated to the starting lineup. After missing three matches against Sri Lanka last week, he was given the chance to bat at No. 4 against New Zealand in KL Rahul’s absence.
