India finished day 3 on 45/4 and had to hit 145 to win. Early in day four, they lost the wicket of Jaydev Unadkat (13). Then, in quick succession, Mehidy Hasan struck again, eliminating Rishabh Pant for 9 and Axar Patel for 34.

After then, Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer teamed up to take control of the situation. Both teams began by playing cautiously, and as India got to within 30 runs of the mark, they both accelerated and finished the job quickly.

India crossed the finish line with 16 runs from Mehidy Hasan’s 47th over. Aswin won the match for India with six and two fours off the off-spinner in that over alone.

Shreyas Iyer too did a good job of playing his part, first absorbing the pressure before targeting Shakib Al Hasan and relieving Ashwin of some of it. The right-29 hander’s points, which included four fours, were unblemished. Shreyas received praise from Ashwin for his batting technique during the post-game presentation.

“Game was on the line. I thought Bangladesh played really well. The game had to be won the hard way. Shreyas batted beautifully, if he wasn’t the player of the series, I’d have shared this with him,” said Ashwin.

The seasoned Indian spinner praised the Bangladesh bowlers as well for placing their deliveries ineffective spots during the Test match.

“Credit to Bangladesh, they put us under real pressure at certain moments. They bowled well. But we needed to trust our defense. I wanted to get in and support Shreyas,” Ashwin added further.

He finished by maintaining a comment on the Test series’ pitches. For the spinners, both pitches had a turn and bounce. The batters from both sides, however, found it difficult because of the inconsistent bounce in between.

“Pitches were good, they were a touch slow. But the ball made a difference. The hosts put us under a lot of pressure. Good performances as well,” Ashwin concluded saying.
