Former Pakistan captain, Babar Azam, was once again the point of discussion among India and Pakistan cricket fans after he dropped Kane Williamson’s dolly catch in the PAK vs NZ 1st T20I at Auckland. Having won the toss, Shaheen Shah Afridi elected to bowl first in his first game as the captain of Pakistan’s T20I team.

Shaheen Shah Afridi got off to a flyer as he dismissed Devon Conway on the 2nd ball of the New Zealand innings on the score of 0. However, what unfolded later was misery for the Pakistan team and their new captain Shaheen Afridi.

Babar Azam maintained his disastrous streak on the Australian continent by dropping a dolly to give star batsman Kane Williamson a chance. The incident happened in the fifth over when Abbas Afridi was sent into the attack by Pakistani captain Shaheen Afridi to end Williamson and Finn Allen’s developing partnership. Having let six runs in his opening three deliveries, the right-arm pacer eventually got Williamson to misjudge a shot.

Babar Azam, who was positioned at long-on, tried to catch the ball as it shot straight up into the air. But he failed horribly, dropping a sitter behind and giving Williamson a fortunate escape. However, one ball later, Abbas Afridi removed Finn Allen, who had previously struck 34 runs off just 15 deliveries. Following the removal of the keeper-batter, Williamson was joined in the middle by in-form batsman Daryl Mitchell, who helped the BlackCaps keep their attacking prowess alive.

Williamson was again dropped by Iftikhar Ahmad right when he was on the brink of his half-century. Daryl Mitchell was dropped by Mohammad Rizwan later and the Pakistan fielders were all over the place.

Fans allege rift between Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi
