Before the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Joy Bhattacharjya made some bold allegations about Indian captain Rohit Sharma. He feels that Rohit Sharma’s selection as the Indian team’s captain may be detrimental to the group because the veteran batter is not the best fit.
When the T20 World Cup 2024 takes place in June this year, Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian squad. Following the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, Rohit’s position within the squad remained unclear. It had been over a year since he left the team.
Young people benefited from his absence, and rumors were circulating that he wouldn’t be participating in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. But Rohit Sharma immediately made an impression when he returned to the team during the series against Afghanistan earlier this year, smashing a century in the third game.
Subsequently, BCCI secretary Jay Shah made it clear that Rohit Sharma would lead the team in the mega event. Since then, Rohit has seemed inauspicious and is among the top run scorers in IPL 2024, hammering over 300 runs.
But Joy Bhattacharjya isn’t pleased that Rohit Sharma will be captain of the team in the 2024 T20 World Cup. He feels that one of the squad’s in-form batsmen, such as Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, or Virat Kohli, will have to bat down the order because the Mumbai Indians batsman is on the team.

Joy Bhattacharjya went on to make a daring declaration, stating that in the T20 World Cup 2024, he would rather have Jasprit Bumrah lead the Indian side than Rohit Sharma. He thinks that winning the championship would be the senior opener’s dream way to cap off his career.
The India squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 is anticipated to be revealed in the upcoming week, as the deadline for revealing the roster is May 1st.
“The decision to appoint Rohit Sharma as India’s captain for the T20 World Cup may have hampered the team. At this point, Sharma is not the ideal choice to lead the team in the T20I format I have the utmost respect for Rohit Sharma and I think he is an amazing cricketer,” Joy Bhattacharjya said speaking to Cricbuzz,

“However, he is currently out of batting form. Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shubman Gill are in better form right now and are strong contenders for the opening positions. However, since Sharma is the captain, he will open, meaning one of those in-form players will have to bat lower down the order,” Joy further added.
“I would choose Jasprit Bumrah over Rohit Sharma as captain because Bumrah’s skill as a bowler makes him a vital member of the team. Rohit has achieved everything in cricket, but there’s one thing he needs to do; win a World Cup. He won the T20 World Cup in 2007 and wants to end his career on a high note, we call it book-ending. That’s a great thought,” Joy Bhattachrajya concluded.
