Mayank Yadav, the 21-year-old pace bowling sensation, faces an uncertain future in the ongoing IPL season after sustaining a suspected abdominal muscle tear during Lucknow Super Giants’ match against Mumbai Indians. This marks the second injury setback for the Delhi cricketer within a span of four weeks, raising concerns about his participation in the remaining round-robin stage of the tournament.
Mayank Yadav’s Dazzling Start and Subsequent Breakdown
Mayank Yadav burst onto the IPL scene with his blistering 155 kmph deliveries, earning back-to-back ‘Player of the Match’ awards for his exceptional performances. However, his meteoric rise was halted when he broke down during the third match, ruling him out for four weeks due to injury.
Comeback Cut Short, Doubtful for Remaining Games
After passing fitness tests, Mayank Yadav made his comeback against Mumbai Indians on Tuesday but was forced to leave the field after bowling just 3.1 overs, conceding 31 runs. According to a BCCI source, Mayank has sustained a suspected grade 1 tear, making his participation in the remaining IPL games highly doubtful. The source stated, “Mayank has a tear but it is more likely a grade 1 tear. It will be cutting it fine but in case LSG qualifies for the play-offs, he might just be able to play the knock-out games. But it is like hoping against hope and right now he is doubtful for the remaining IPL games.”
BCCI’s Plans for Nurturing Mayank’s Talent
Despite the setback, the BCCI has plans to nurture Mayank’s talent by offering him a pace bowling contract alongside Umran Malik, Vidwath Kaverappa, Vyshak Vijaykumar, Yash Dayal, and Akash Deep. This contract will place Mayank under the supervision of NCA’s Sports Science and Medical team, who will oversee his injury management and fitness program.
