Mayank Yadav of the Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) captured everyone’s attention with his lightning-fast speed amongst a plethora of impressive comebacks and the veterans continuing to put in good performances in IPL 2024.
During the team’s game against the Punjab Kings this year, the 21-year-old pacer made his LSG debut and had an immediate effect. In their subsequent match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he claimed three more wickets in addition to his three. He gave up just 14 runs in his four overs in the second game.
Team India cautioned about Mayank Yadav
But Mayank Yadav sustained an injury during the team’s game against the Gujarat Titans earlier this month, and he hasn’t played since. Fans, as well as a few former cricket players, have already proposed his name for the T20 World Cup.
Before the team’s match with the Chennai Super Kings, Mayank resumed training, however, LSG has not yet released a formal announcement regarding his return date.

IPL champion coach Tom Moody is adamant that it would be premature to include Mayank in the national team’s lineup. Considering his history of injuries and inexperience at the greatest level, Moody feels that the pacer should be developed gradually rather than being given special treatment within Team India.
Here’s what Tom Moody had to say
“I’ve loved what I saw for the first couple of games, it was quite extraordinary to the point you want to see the replays of that game. But you cannot have a knee-jerk reaction and pick him in the World Cup when he has only played two games and got injured,” Tom Moody said while speaking to ESPNCricinfo.
“You don’t really know what he’s capable of doing over a long period of time, under pressure and in different roles. Yes, he’s an absolute lock for the future, and look after the asset. For me, it’s the 2026 World Cup you should be looking at (with him),” Moody further stated.
LSG welcomes CSK at home
When they host the aggressive Chennai Super Kings at the Ekana Stadium in the IPL 2024, LSG will be looking to avoid losing a third straight game in Mayank Yadav’s absence.
After losing to the Kolkata Knight Riders in their most recent game, the Super Giants were knocked out of the top four and now have three victories in six games.
