Shivam Dube expressed his appreciation to MS Dhoni and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for “bringing out the best in him.” Shivam Dube has been on a roll in the ongoing IND vs AFG series with 2 half-centuries in 2 games.
With the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 approaching, Dube has claimed stakes in the Indian team as a backup option for Hardik Pandya, who is currently out injured. The 30-year-old Dube claimed that Stephen Fleming, Michael Hussey, and Dhoni had enough faith in him to let him play freely.
In the second T20I, which was played in Indore on Sunday, Dube was at the top of his game. With five fours and four sixes, he struck 63 runs off 32 balls, enabling India to chase down 173 and win the game by six wickets.
Following Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s dismissal early on, Shivam Dube and Yashasvi Jaiswal put together a 92-run partnership for the third wicket. In addition, he was named Player of the Match at the PCA Stadium in Mohali following his 60 runs and a wicket in the IND vs AFG 1st T20I. Dube has also shown promise with the ball, taking two wickets at a 22.50 average.
Shivam Dube thanks MS Dhoni and CSK
“The credit goes to the CSK team and Mahi bhai because I have always had the game in me. But bringing out the best from a player is something done by CSK,” Shivam Dube said on Jio Cinema.
“All the things they have given me, the confidence, they have told me that ‘Shivam, you can score runs in the IPL, don’t worry, we believe in you’. And many others, like Mike Hussey and Fleming, told me that they have faith in me. It was there in my mind,” he added.
Team India has won the first 2 games and thereby the 3-match series vs Afghanistan. The last game of the series will be played on January 17 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. This is their final assignment as a T20I setup before they head into the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 which starts in June this year.
IPL 2024 will be a major factor in establishing India’s T20 World Cup squad. Rohit Sharma has claimed stakes as a leader but his contribution with the bat is questionable as he has failed to score a single run yet in the series.
