Ahead of Asia Cup, the Indian Cricket Team got a major setback. As Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team tests positive for COVID-19. Reportedly, Rahul Dravid (Head Coach Of the Indian Cricket Team) tests positive for COVID-19. BCCI posted an announcement regarding the same on their website.

Soon after getting the reports of Rahul Dravid, BCCI immediately appointed VVS Laxman as interim Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team. VVS Laxman, who was initially appointed as Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team for the Zimbabwe tour, had to take the responsibility of being the coach for the Team for the Asia Cup. He will be serving the duty till Rahul Dravid is declared fit by the Medical Team of BCCI.

VVS Laxman Appointed As Interim Head Coach Of Team India

VVS Laxman, who had a successful run against Zimbabwe will be travelling to UAE, along with vice-captain KL Rahul, Deepak Hooda and Avesh Khan, who were part of the Zimbabwe tour and are also the part of India Squad for the Asia Cup. They will be travelling to UAE from Harare (Zimbabwe).

Team India, under the guidance of Laxman, had white-washed Zimbabwe in ODI Series which consisted of 3 matches. Laxman has earlier worked as a coach for the national team and this is his second tenure. When Rahul Dravid was busy with the preparations for the one-off Test against England, Laxman coached the Hardik Pandya-led side in two T20Is against Ireland and two warm-up matches in England.

Also when Dravid was rested for the first T20I against England, Laxman coached the Rohit Sharma-led side in the T20I series-opener. Dravid took over the charge from the second game. Laxman is currently head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

India will be playing the second match of the Asia Cup 2022 against Pakistan. It will be a great responsibility ahead of Laxman for coaching the side in an ICC tournament. Rahul Dravid, on the other hand, will be soon joining the squad, once he tested negative for COVID-19.
